Filing Taxes For Dummies

If you haven’t filed your taxes for 2011, the last day to do so is April 30. With exams occupying most of your April schedule, it makes sense to file them now and get them out of the way. If all this tax business sounds intimidating, the UTSU is offering a free tax clinic for all students. Be smart and make use of this service, because elsewhere, tax filing services can cost you upwards of $40. Not to mention the time and energy you can save by getting them filed on campus.

Here’s what you need to do:

• Gather all your documents; a photo ID, SIN card, T4 slips from your 2011 employer(s), T2202A form downloaded off ROSI and transit receipts (monthly metro passes, Go Train passes and TTC weekly passes all qualify). For a complete list of other applicable documents, visit this UTSU webpage.

• Book an appointment online at taxclinic.utsu.ca/default/campus/ Appointments are available daily between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The service ends April 30th (duh!) so make sure to book an appointment before that date.

• Don’t forget to go! Yes, it’s as simple as that. Happy tax filing!
